SAVANNAH - A collection of beautiful poetry

A collection of quality poetry is hard to find; Malobi Sinha has achieved in Savannah what many writers hope to in their first book – it is simple to read, and flowing sentences meld the words to blend into a natural whole. A simple yet breathtaking piece of work, well worth the read.

“There is a freshness and vibrancy in Malobi Sinha’s poems that I for one have rarely encountered in the otherwise Byzantine mazes of much contemporary poetry. The complex layers of meaning in her poems, beneath their often apparent simplicity, rewards the reader at every turn.

Malobi entitles one of her poems Your Soul but I think she is really describing her own world perception, for in Your Soul she says:

‘I breathe in
The beauty of
A thousand lifetimes
With
My Soul ’.”

“Malobi Sinha writes poems of suppleness and emotional candour... Although Australia is rich in poetic talent like Ms Sinha, this collection is a testament to her ability and promise as a new poet. The rewards of her poetry are many, and her poems encourage repeated readings, growing richer and more complex each time. This is not a collection to miss."

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

When a book is in the making, it is difficult to sometimes see the wood for the trees. I would like to thank firstly my sister Malindi, for your inspiration in the days when the poetry I wrote was fleeting and mainly for family – your words across from the U.K. inspired me to feel that perhaps the seed of words bursting for light within me was more than just a fantasy.

My Mum and Dad. You have always been there, solidarity for me through the dark and the light. Any words I can say to thank you can never be enough – I am just so thankful to have your love and support, that it is beyond me to know how to express my appreciation enough for you.

My husband Supriyo – as always, my rock. Thanks for everything – you came to when I was looking for a friend and have been more than that to me; you have filled my life with love and laughter, as well as happiness. Thank you.

To Bil – Aseem. Thank you too for your encouragement – now for that best seller, yeah! Thanks.

I would like to acknowledge the help from various other writers – including Coral Hull from Thylazine, Magdalena Ball from the Compulsive Reader, Philip Ellis from the Australian Reader, and Graham Pitts. In this world of publishing poetry, you have been staunch supporters, and I cannot express my gratitude to you enough.

Here are some samples:

Earth

Come to me, come to me
Shades of Matilda
Within
The vast silence of
The red Earth.
Stars like
Fireflies
In the wilderness
Above.
Soon, the
Moon will light the way
Up to heavens
Above.
Cricket,
Can you
Hear him?
Chirps
Of
Higher intelligence.
Come to me
The wind will sigh
Oceans roll
Waves crashing
On the
Sand on the beach.
Come
To me.
Peace
On the Earth
At last.

With you

I am gone to

The fields out yonder

To the leaves of

Gold and the rattle

Of the river as it

Winds to its destiny;

Do not mourn for me

For I am still here

In the whisper of the

Breeze in

Your hair, the door bell

Ringing in the day;

I am still here

With you

Love-song

Like a song of yore,
That moves me with its music.
Like a love-song, beating
The rhythm of my dreams.
There are no words to
Describe your beauty.
You moved me,
With a glance
From across the room.
Your words are like nectar
A drug, pulling me...
Pulling me into your eyes,
Into the Heaven
Of your arms.
I surrender.
I drown.
I love.
